Part of Remus Greuc project “Criminal Minds” is displayed in the group exhibition, NOVEMBER at Galleri Festiviteten, Oslo and the the entire series will be shown at Berns Asiatiska, Stockholm in March in 2012.

Remus Grecu grew up in Bucharest, Romania. Having completed his studies at the University of Fine Arts in Bucharest Remus Grecu has exhibit his work at several shows across Europe. Remus paintings and drawings has been published in Beaux Art Magazine in 2010.

My work engages with the murky psychology related to crime; the evolutionary process which exists between an individual’s first desire to commit a crime, its execution, and the subsequent psychological changes which manifest afterwards.  My samples are drawings depicting murderers, rapists, and thieves. The drawings hail from a collection collectively entitled Silent Faces, a body of work first conceived more than twelve months ago. I draw and paint subjects who, either through a natural inclination or otherwise, have found themselves living on the periphery of society; they are the outcasts, the guilty, the condemned.

For me, the idea of the criminal represents a gross subversion of institutional “power”; that is to say, the criminal stands diametrically opposed to accepted values in civilised society. I am particularly drawn to the underlying psychological factors surrounding the crimes committed and I strive to give this an expression in the images I create.

Through my work, I wish to offer viewers a contemplative question concerning the people with whom they live side by side: how can we really measure anyone’s potential to indulge in criminal activity?

Since we live in a world where crime is a daily occurrence, I find this subject matter disturbing, but at the same time this is the very reason I am fascinated by it. My representations of the criminal are a way of acknowledging the darker side of the human mind and the transgressive repercussions which stem from it.
